Ivory Ground Heriz Carpet
This is a very charming small Heriz carpet which dates to the last quarter of the 19th century. It has a rare ivory background with repeating geometric ornaments in very subtle shades of pale blue, green, gold and salmon. All the colours are the derived from natural sources. The sapphire blue border is also attractive with repeating palmettes and stylised tendrils. The carpet feels very rustic in its drawing. The additional of a few small animal ornaments also gives the impression that this carpet may have been made in a cottage industry situation. The unusually small carpet size may also be an indication that originally it was woven for domestic use. It's a really charming carpet. Cherished through the generations, it has survived in good condition with minimal signs of wear damage or repair. The original ends and sides are intact. Professionally cleaned.
