Isfahan Rug

Strictly speaking, one should describe this rug as an Isfahan 'village' rug as it was woven in the villages on the outskirts of the city. However, provincial Persian rugs have often been attributed to the location in which they were marketed. This rug nevertheless bears the hallmarks of a classic Isfahan design as the weavers were influenced by the urban carpets of nearby Isfahan. It has fine soft wool and a rich range of colours all derived from natural sources. The repeating floral design of quatrefoils and medallions on a sapphire blue background departs from the typical Isfahan central medallion design, and is framed beautifully by a burgundy palmette border. Cherished through the generations, it has survived in very good condition, with good even pile and only minor signs of wear. The original kilim ends and selvages are intact. Professionally cleaned.
