Exceptional Bakshaish Gallery Carpet
This wonderful gallery carpet was woven in North-West Persia, in the famous town of Bakshaish around 1880. It has the characteristic camel background colour associated with Bakshaish carpets and the classical herati field design and complementary terracotta border. Finely knotted with hand-spun wool and coloured with wonderful natural dyes. Note in particular, the lovely shades of terracotta and green. The herati design is repeated through the field in an all-over design and is very nicely spaced which gives the carpet a very elegant look. The pile is god throughout, and the overall condition is excellent. The size is extremely hard to find and would be ideal for a wide hallway or gallery.
