Persian Village Rug

Persian Village Rug

This handsome village rug was probably made in North-West Persia around the end of the 19th century. It has several outstanding features. The saturated natural dyes have produced a wonderful array of colours and demonstrate exceptional dyeing skills. The sapphire blue field glows while the secondary colours such a gorgeous green, two light blues, a burnt orange and the pink are all delightful. The design too is beautifully balanced and restrained, the all-over pattern of flowers, leaves and plants disappearing under the edges of the field to give a sense of eternity. The ivory border with a stylised meandering vine and leaf border is drawn in a dynamic range of colours. The whole composition is delightful. This piece has survived in very good original condition, Professionally cleaned.
