Appliqued Silk Velvet Panel
Probably of Hungarian origin, this wonderfully tactile velvet exudes luxury and sophistication. The ground colour is a rich shade of burgundy or plum, while the applique is worked in gold silk. It is a stunning combination. The size and format suggests that this piece may have been used over a table, but it has survived in excellent condition. Recent cleaning has added a glowing sheen to the surface. Note also the tasselled corners which have also survived in excellent original condition.
