Fine Senneh Wool Kilim
The weavers in the Kurdish city of Senneh were among the most talented in Persia in the 19th century. Apart from the fine rugs, they produced exceptional quality wool kilims which were often used as textile furnishings. This finely woven piece is an excellent example. The wool has a lovely supple texture which folds like a textile. It is difficult to believe it is 140 years old! All the colours are derived from organic dyes, including an indigo blue, greens, golds, terracottas and light blues. Please take a moment to look at the detail pictures to see how beautiful each colour is. As for the design, the drawing of the so-called ubiquitous Herati pattern is elegant which is repeated through the entire field, and is very easy on the eye. Note also the very pretty borders which frames the composition. Cherished through the generations this kilim has survived in really excellent condition, with very little wear and no repairs. Professionally cleaned the colours have recovered their freshness. This is an exceptional example of Persian Senneh weaving.
