Exceptional Anglo-Indian Embroidered Cover
Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century, this wonderful cover is one of a group of silk embroideries made for British clientele either in India or Britain. It is finely worked on a plain wool background and densely decorated in flowers, leaves and meandering vines. Both gold and silver thread have been used freely, particularly in the inner roundel. The perfect balance of the design between the complex embroidery and the plain coloured areas is quite majestic. One can see this work hanging in an important space or as a cover on a bed or table. The embroidery has survived in very good condition. Professionally cleaned. The original lining and fringing is still intact.
