Shiraz Rug
Woven by the settled Khamseh weavers in or around the city of Shiraz around 1900, this is a charming tribal rug with lots of character. It has an all-wool foundation, a soft and glossy wool pile, and all natural colours. the design is composed of the ubiquitous triple conjoined geometric medallions with archaic interior ornaments which are surrounded by styled plants, birds and myriad other geometric ornaments. The spontaneity and asymmetry of the design suggest that this was made in a domestic setting by weavers who were familiar with their tribal traditions. Note the lovely colours, all derived from natural dyes, including a madder red, indigo blue and a really lovely bottle green. This is a riotously attractive Persian tribal rug which would enhance any setting. professionally cleaned. The pile has even wear giving it the elusive lived-in look.
