Swedish Kilim Designed by Judith Johansson

Designed by Judith Johansson in the Scandinavian Modern Style, this handwoven wool kilim or Rollakan has high wool quality with an abstract design worked in great detail and with great finesse. Johansson was one of the most success textile artists of the 20th century. In 1938, she opened her own weaving studio and by the 1950s her work appeared in embassies and churches. Her work was extremely popular and she won many awards. This kilim is a fine example of her work. Note the marvelous complexity of the texture which has been achieved by mixing shades of the same colour to create deliberate abrashes, to give the piece depth, and almost a three-dimensional appearance. The subtle well blended colours, shades of ivory, turquoise, blues and greens, are ideal for contemporary decoration. Note the monogram to the bottom right corner. Professionally cleaned in our workshop, this rare piece is in fine condition, and is ready for immediate use.
