Stunning Karaja Carpet
Among the many towns and villages of the Azerbaijan region of North-West Persia where carpets were woven in the 19th century, Karaja weavings often have a very individual character. This wonderful carpet is a fine example. everything about it exudes refinement and skill. The wool quality is exceptional, the weave is fine and the dyes are simply exquisite. Add to that an highly decorative all-over repeat design of stylised palmettes and leaves, framed by an elegant matching sapphire blue border and one has a really special carpet. Note also the squarish format which would make it ideal for many decorative settings, both period and contemporary. Professionally cleaned and in excellent condition. Minor restoration to the ends, otherwise in very good original condition.
