Petit-Point Panel, 'The Fish Market', After Teniers
One of a pair of large petit-point panels, this highly decorative piece depicts a late 19th century impression of the famous 17th century Teniers tapestries known as the 'Fishing' tapestries. This piece depicts market day, and is full of wonderful detail, with merchants trading, a seascape and expressively drawn fish on the quay. Note the buildings to the left background, one of which sports a turret flying a flag with the English 'Cross of St George'. The composition is framed by an acanthus leaf border on an emerald green background. The workmanship of these pieces is exceptional. The colours are exquisite, and the figures are expertly drawn. Note also the excellent size. These pieces have survived in remarkable condition and would make a wonderful decorative statement in the right location. The price is £15,000 for the pair.
