Handsome Kurdish Runner
Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century, this charming piece retains a great deal of tribal character. It has an all wool structure and the dyes are all natural and very attractive. Note in particular, the lovely shades of gold green and light blue. The brown background has lots of abrash which makes it very attractive. The repeat Memling gul pattern is quite rarely seen in Kurdish rugs , but suggests it may have been influenced by the neighbouring weavers in the Caucasus. The scale of the drawing is open and bold, which gives this piece great presence. Professionally cleaned, and in nice condition with just the right amount of wear to give it the elusive lived-in look. This would make a delightful addition to a corridor or lobby area.
