Stunning Karabagh Kellei
Karabagh is a famous district in the Armenian Caucasus which has a rich tradition of carpet weaving. Occupied by the Persians for centuries, and then later in the 19th century by Russia, the carpets woven in Karabagh reveal the different influences upon the weavers from local wealthy clientele, as well as their indigenous weaving traditions . This carpet is one of a well known group of Karabagh carpets that may have first appeared in the 18th century or earlier. It is a stunningly beautiful carpet with repeating blossoms within a lattice design floating on a white background and framed by an elegant meandering vine border. The carpet has been reduced in size but retains it\\\'s splendour! Thin and fine, it folds like paper. A carpet for the connoisseur!
